In April of 2022, President Zelenskyy of Ukraine made a speech at the Grammys. He said, “our musicians wear body armor instead of tuxedos. They sing to the wounded in hospitals. Even to those who can’t hear them. But the music will break through anyway. We defend our freedom. To live. To love. To sound. On our land, we are fighting Russia which brings horrible silence with its bombs. Fill the silence with your music. Tell our story.”1 There is power in the song – power to lift up the wounded, power to unite us, power to give voice to the voiceless, power to break through to tell the story, and, yes even to change the world.
