Jesus, Love, the Bible: Karl Barth

One day in 1962, a Reformed theologian from Switzerland was speaking at the University of Chicago. At the end of his talk, a student asked Karl Barth “if he could summarize his theology in a single sentence.” Over the course of his life, Karl Barth had published more than 600 works. Yet, without missing he beat, he responded, “In the words of a song I learned at my mother’s knee: ‘Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.’” What matters most? Jesus, love, the Bible.1
